Map and Directions
By Rail
Eurostar can take you from London to France, and we can collect you from any of our three nearest TGV stations at Le Mans, Laval, or Sablé sur Sarthe. You can usually opt for a journey with a change at Lille Europe so you don't have to cross central Paris to make the connection but if you do go via Paris the connection is just one journey on the metro to Gare Montparnasse from Gard du Nord.
By Air and Rail / Air
We can also collect you from our nearest airports which are at Rennes and Tours; flights are available from several provincial UK airports. However, you will usually find that efficient (and low-cost) trips can also be made by air to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport followed by a connecting TGV rail journey to Le Mans. You can also travel by rail fro Rennes to Laval after a short taxi transfer to the rail station in the centre of town.
By Car / Ferry
Car hire is available from Avis and other companies at Rennes airport and Le Mans rail station, but you may prefer to bring your own vehicle. Coming from the UK by car we have usually used the overnight car ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo for a very civilised journey that takes place mostly while you sleep. Les Hallais an easy two hour drive from there, with motorway nearly all the way. For more flexibility on the return journey, you may prefer to leave via Caen as the St Malo ferries only go back once a day, leaving in the morning.
We are about a three hour drive away from the Ouistreham (Caen) ferry port, a shorter distance but a slower, more scenic route, passing through many pretty towns. Le Havre and Cherbourg are about 4 1/2 hours away. It is possible to take your car by rail to Calais on the Shuttle, or the ferry directly there but as it is then a c. 5 hour drive to us, we do not recommend this route unless you are stopping off along the way. Le Havre and CHerbourg are also feasible ferry options but less convenient (c 4 hours by car).
We recommend bringing a good French road atlas or maps if you come by car. They can be purchased on the ferries. The map below highights the major roads nearby.
